This course is designed to develop each student’s ability to communicate effectively in his or her academic, business, and social life. The major emphasis is on the preparation and delivery of formal speeches, ideas, decisions, but many areas of the communication process are also explored during the course.
Verbal communication is the process of verbally transmitting information and ideas from one individual or group to another. Verbal communication is more personal and less formal than written communication and therefore having effective Verbal communication skills can often mean the difference between success and failure in the academic and business world.
There are many situations in which it makes sense to choose Verbal over written communication. For Verbal communication to be effective, it should be clear, relevant, tactful in phraseology and fine tuned, concise, and informative. For effective delivery, an idea should be organized to include an introduction, a main body or text, and a summary or conclusion.
Effective Verbal communication is becoming more essential as video conferences becoming a standard mode of communication now-a-days. People in distant locations are now communicating over video conferencing for job interviews, business meetings and social interactions more than ever. Using visual aids and screen sharing are effective when delivering a concept or deciding on a resolution.
After successful completion of this course, students will have greater understanding of Verbal communication and will be able to deliver ideas and concepts in a structured and concise manner using different mode of communication.
